Health Care

American families are struggling to find affordable health insurance coverage. Skyrocketing health care costs are straining family budgets as well as state budgets; forcing employers to drop or scale back health insurance coverage for their workers; increasing the number of uninsured Americans; and impeding access to needed health care services. President Obama and Congressional Democrats will strive to enact long-overdue change to our nation's health care system by:

  • Guaranteeing quality, affordable health coverage and providing assistance to families and businesses trying to afford coverage;
  • Protecting and improving existing public and private coverage;
  • Lowering costs, improving the quality of our care, and adequately reimbursing our providers while addressing provider shortages;
  • Reducing waste and inefficiency in the current system by investing in state of the art health information technology;
  • Reducing disparities and caring for populations with special needs; and
  • Promoting disease prevention to help people avoid costly, debilitating conditions in the first place.

Democrats are committed to controlling health care costs and building upon the existing health care system to secure quality, affordable health coverage for every American.
